WASHINGTON — A 15-year-old boy was shot in the leg outside of a high school football game in Northeast D.C. on Thanksgiving Day. DC police said the shooting of the teen was targeted.
Police were sent to the scene after multiple gunshots were heard around 1:24 p.m. on the 1600 block of E Capitol Street, near Eastern Senior High School, where the DCPS annual Turkey Bowl championship was taking place.
According to Commander Tasha Bryant of the first district, units were already based working for the game. Officers located the teenage boy, and he was transported with injuries he was expected to survive.
DC police say they are looking for an older model gray Toyota Camry with two to three people inside of the vehicle and a D.C. tag identified as FP3600. The vehicle was last seen traveling to East Capitol. DC police believe the driver of the Toyota Camry is a woman.
Bryant said a dispute took place inside the game well before the shooting, but said everyone involved was kicked out of the game, and she had no reason to believe there was any connection between the two occurrences.
“I’m tired of talking about gun violence,” Bryant said. “I’m tired of seeing kids being victims. I’m tired of seeing kids victimizing other children.”
Bryant said it does not appear there was an exchange of gunfire. Police found a caliber of casing that does not match the weapon found on the street.
Right around the same time, a man was also shot on 49th and Capitol Street. According to DC police, the man walked himself to a firehouse, and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Investigations into both shootings are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Metropolitan Police Department at (202) 727-9099.
