De La Soul pays tribute to his late band member Trugoy the Dove with performance The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon The specialty of Roots.

Trugoy the Dove passed away last month at the age of 54. He had been suffering from a number of health problems in recent years, although no cause of death was revealed.

Referencing Trugoy’s opening verse from his 1991 ‘De La Soul Is Dead’ cut, ‘Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey)’, he continued: “Thank you for helping us be a group that is hip hop. The culture will live on in time. As well as the fabric of the music. And for now when we perform “ring ring ring ha ha hey” we’ll say ‘2-2-2-2-222 we got an angel in heaven who can talk to you.

Masio then penned a heartfelt message reflecting his close relationship with the deceased emcee, saying: “Dave – thank you so much for being in my life. Although you and I would argue like hell, we Both will admit when we were wrong and totally come full circle and say, “I love you.”
