Shooting in Half Moon Bay: the suspect of the moment is arrested by the police in California

An emotional Gavin Newsom asked, “What’s going on?” while speaking in Half Moon Bay, California, the day after seven farmworkers were shot and killed.

“Only in America. Number one for gun ownership, number one for deaths. It’s not that complicated,” Mr Newsom said as the state reeled from a series of mass shootings.

What do I have to lose? We have to call some people. I’m still waiting for Kevin McCarthy, we haven’t heard a word from him since Monterey Park or what happened here. nothing. This should surprise no one. “

And he added: “Only in America do we see this kind of carnage.”

Chunli Zhao, 67, worked for decades at one of the two agricultural sites where the shooting took place on Monday afternoon.

He was arrested shortly after when he was spotted sitting in his car outside the local sheriff’s office. The video showed officers dragging him down and handcuffing him.

The suspected shooter shot four victims and wounded a fifth at Mountain Mushroom Farm, and killed three other victims at Rice Trucking-Soil Farm about two miles away, authorities said. The eighth victim was airlifted to hospital and is now in stable condition.

It is believed that many children witnessed the horror attack, as many farm workers live on site with their families.

Police said Tuesday that Zhao obtained the gun legally and called the incident “workplace violence.”

The arraignment is expected Wednesday in San Mateo County.

The United States begins 2023 with a dark wave of massacres

Eleven people were killed while welcoming the Lunar New Year at a popular dance hall with older Asian Americans. Seven Chinese and Latino farmers killed amid the serene beauty of California’s Half Moon Bay. A 17-year-old mother and her baby were shot dead in an attack that killed six people across five generations of her family.

While all three rampages have unfolded in California for the past few days, people across the United States are reeling from the steady onslaught of massacres in the first weeks of 2023.

A database of massacres maintained by the Associated Press, USA today and Northeastern University shows a particularly deadly start to 2023, with 39 people killed in six events since Jan. 4, when a Utah man, investigated but never charged in a 2020 child abuse complaint, shot dead his wife, his mother and their five children before committing suicide.

Governor says Chinese translator could not describe what shooting victims saw

“Their friends were shot, killed,” Gavin Newsom said at a news conference on Tuesday.

“They went there, people had been shot and they thought they were taking action. They had never heard a noise like that, they had never seen a scene like that, they didn’t even know how to understand a gunshot wound. It’s not something they’ve ever experienced, let alone understood.

“It’s only in America that we see this kind of carnage, this kind of chaos, this kind of destruction of communities and lives, of trust and sense of security and belonging.”
