The California judge who sentenced disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes to more than 11 years in prison last week recommended that she serve her time in a minimum-security women’s facility.

Holmes, 38, was sentenced Nov. 18 to 135 months in prison after pleading guilty to defrauding investors who backed his fake blood-testing company.

According to a court filing last week, Judge Edward Davila of the Northern District of California recommended he serve his sentence at the federal prison camp in Bryan, Texas.

Criminal defense attorney Alan Ellis told LOVEBYLIFE that the relatively sleek digs at FPC Bryan are like “paradise” compared to other prisons. If Holmes serves his sentence there, he said, he will have “no walls, no bars, no fences.”

In his recommendation, Davila noted FPC Bryan’s lenient inspection policy.

“Courts have found that family visitation enhances rehabilitation,” Davila wrote.

The Bureau of Prisons will make the final decision on where Holmes will serve his time. He is expected to begin his sentence on April 27, 2023.

Even a minimum-security facility would likely be a culture shock for Holmes, who had previously requested house arrest. The former billionaire — who once bragged that “nice people” like him never went to jail — reportedly spent the past few years with Evans at the $135 million Green Gables estate in Woodside, Calif.

Prosecutors are also seeking $804 million in restitution from investors — including software mogul Larry Ellison and Walmart’s Walton family — who financed Theranos.

A hearing to determine how much to pay Holmes will be held in December. He is also expected to appeal his sentence, which he must do within two weeks of his initial sentencing date.
