Mariah Carey returned at this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and fans weren’t thrilled with her performance
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The holiday season is upon us and it’s time to gather with your loved one and dance to the tunes of your favorite holiday-themed songs. When it comes to holiday music, how can we forget Mariah Carey’s legendary track “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and the impact it has on listeners? The song has become one of the biggest songs based on Christmas and every year as the Christmas season begins the song tops the charts due to its amazing lyrics and extraordinary composition. However, the song found itself in the midst of controversy after the singer performed at the 96th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, November 24.
The musician returned to the special event after seven years, and fans were super excited that the ‘Queen of Christmas’ would be performing her iconic song in celebration of Thanksgiving. However, her comeback performance at Macy’s Thanksgiving event drew a lot of criticism, with many viewers and listeners believing the musician “lip-synched” during her performance.

Performing in front of thousands of people, Carey looked stunning in a fitted red dress as she sang her iconic celebratory song. But it seems fans knew right away that the singer was “lip-synching” throughout the performance, when they found out her voice sounded very similar to the recorded version of the 1994 hit.
Fans were genuinely unhappy with the singer’s apparent use of lip sync and blasted her for wasting her time. One of the fans wrote: “Respect to Mariah Carey for not even pretending not to lip sync.” Another fan wrote: “After this disastrous lip syncing it’s only fitting that Mariah Carey’s attempt to become the official Queen of Christmas , Was rejected. Yikes.” Another listener tweeted, “So we’re just supposed to pretend Mariah Carey is singing All I Want For Christmas live right now? Terrible lip syncing.”
“Mariah Carey just did the worst lip sync ever… how you ruin Christmas in November,” wrote another fan. “This lip sync by Mariah Carey could go down as the worst attempt ever. I don’t think her mic was on, her face certainly wasn’t moving,” said another listener.
This isn’t the first time the singer has been criticized for lip syncing. In 2016, the Grammy-winner faced many technical difficulties during her Times Square performance that left her completely off-beat with her song. Realizing this was getting out of hand, she left the stage after pacing in embarrassment.
One of the greatest Christmas songs of all time, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” became a worldwide hit, having topped the charts in more than 26 countries. The song was certified “Diamond” by the RIAA for selling more than 10 million copies in the US, making it the only Christmas song to have achieved the feat.
