The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a car accident between a Pleasant Prairie police officer and a civilian vehicle at 5:46 a.m. Wednesday, according to PPPD Chief David Smetana.
According to a departmental Facebook post, the officer was hit by an oncoming car as he drove to a call. In dash cam video attached to the post, the police vehicle’s lights can be seen flashing as the officer navigates the vehicle through snow and other vehicles on the road.
The policeman was released from the hospital after being slightly injured. The other driver was not injured.
“We are happy that the officer did not suffer more serious injuries,” Smetana said. “And we are happy that the driver was not injured.”
The collision was one of several incidents involving motor vehicles to which Pleasant Prairie police responded. Throughout the morning and during rush hour, Smetana said there were further incidents of traffic accidents until the roads were cleared.

“This is a reminder to yield to emergency vehicles and give yourself plenty of room to stop in inclement weather,” the department said in a Facebook post.
