In this article, you will get all the information regarding ‘This place is heaven’: Judge recommends Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes be sent to favourable Texas prison camp

Lawyers for former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes appear to be doing their best to make her decade-plus sentence as comfortable as possible for her.

US District Court Judge Edward Davila recommended that Holmes be sent to a federal prison camp in Bryan, Texas – about an hour and a half from Houston – according to Bloomberg.

Earlier this month, Holmes was sentenced to 11 and a quarter years in prison for defrauding investors who supported her blood testing company, Theranos. The judge ordered Holmes into custody by April 27.

At first glance, the recommendation might seem odd, given that Holmes lived and ran his business in Northern California. However, Bloomberg spoke to a criminal defense attorney who said Holmes’ attorneys likely requested the facility.

According to defense attorney Alan Ellis, the facility is a stand-alone women’s facility that does not share staff or service providers with a men’s prison. He said that when men’s and women’s prisons share staff, women’s prisons tend to adopt the “prison mentality” present in men’s prisons. If the request is granted, Holmes could be spared.

Also, he said the staff at the facility were probably more “open-minded.”

The Bureau of Prisons describes the facility as having a low staff-to-inmate ratio, dormitory-style living rather than cells, and inmates spend their time working and participating in programs.

“Nobody wants to get fired [of the facility] because compared to other places in the prison system, this place is heaven,” Mr. Ellis said. “If you have to go, it’s a good place to go.

According to prison counseling firm Pink Lady, Bryan’s prison houses approximately 900 nonviolent white-collar female inmates. Most of the detainees were convicted of embezzlement and various frauds.

Whether or not Ms. Holmes will end up at Bryan’s facility remains to be seen. Although she grew up in the Houston area, her immediate family lives in Northern California and her parents live in a condo in Washington DC.

Some legal experts predicted she would end up serving her sentence in a prison near Dublin, California, about 35 miles east of San Francisco. This facility is currently home to actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, who were convicted and sentenced in a high-profile college admissions scandal.

The prison also held newspaper heiress Patty Hearst after her conviction for bank robbery.

“His time will be punctuated by boredom, noisy inmates and staff, and just monotony,” said Christopher Zoukis, a prison consultant. Time.
